Silverthorne Wetland Creation

The Booth Creek Wetland Creation is a 0.27-acre mitigation site in the Town of Silverthorne, Colorado.  Prior to founding Birch Ecology, Heather Houston developed the wetland mitigation plan and managed the creation, maintenance, monitoring and annual reporting for the site.  The wetland planting completed in 2009 included a native seed mix, 25 nursery-grown shrubs, more than 1,000 willow cuttings, and 3,500 herbaceous plugs in three shallow ponds with a varied microtopography.   This resulted in a diverse wetland community with a number of hydrologic regimes. The project was monitored for five growing seasons and achieved all of the success criteria.
